Scrimmage Highlights ?First Tennessee Meet the Mocs? Event

| By:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs gathered on a sunny Saturday afternoon for the "First Tennessee Meet the Mocs" and football scrimmage on Davenport Field in Finley Stadium.  A good crowd of Mocs alumni, fans, family and friends came out to meet and mingle with a variety of student-athletes.

The football, soccer and volleyball teams greeted the gathering.  The cheerleaders and Sugar Mocs were there as well.  The teams disbursed posters and schedule cards along with signing autographs and taking pictures for the faithful.

"It gives our fans an opportunity to meet their favorite Mocs," said Ryan Peck, Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and the UTC Mocs Club.  "It is important for our student-athletes to engage our community.  It's a great kickoff to the school year."

The scrimmage lasted 92 plays and was mostly dominated by a defensive effort that only surrendered three field goals.  The first team's opening possession was the only real scoring threat of the day.  Senior QB B.J. Coleman (Chattanooga, Tenn.) march his group across midfield and was threatening to score.  However, he was picked off inside the five-yard line by sophomore Kadeem Wise (Lawrenceville, Ga.)

Coleman finished the day 13-21 passing for 117 yards.  Senior preseason All-American Joel Bradford (Chattanooga, Tenn.) caught five of those passes for 51 yards.  Junior Jarrett Burns (Huntsville, Ala.) had four catches for 56 yards.

Senior LB Ryan Consiglio (Franklin, Tenn.) led the defense with six tackles.  Freshman T.J. Thompson (Sanford, Fla.) also had six stops while junior Josh Williams (Griffin, Ga.) posted a pair of sacks.

Senior Mike Hammons (Benton, Tenn.) led a strong effort in the special teams.  He had a 41.8-yard average over five punts, with a long of 58 yards.  All five of his kicks were downed inside the 20 with two stopped inside the five.

Freshman Nick Pollard went 3-5 on field goals, hitting from 22, 26 and 29 yards.  His misses came from 47 and 43, barely missing on both sides with plenty of distance.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The first team offense methodically worked its way down the field on the opening drive. After 10 plays, B.J. Coleman's (Chattanooga, Tenn.) pass was picked off inside the 10-yard line by Kadeem Wise (Lawrenceville, Ga.).
  • Second-team offense continued to move the ball with a 10-play march of its own. That one ended with a missed 47-yard field goal attempt by Nick Pollard (Nashville, Tenn.). The kick missed just right, but it more than had the distance.
  • Mike Hammons (Benton, Tenn.) 58 yard punt downed on the two-yard line by Jordan Tippit (Huntsville, Ala.). Second effort by Hammons was 46 yards, downed on the 17. His third was 36 yards downed on the one by Wise. Fourth - 47 yarder fair caught at the 12.
