Nurik Named SoCon Player of the Week

| By:
Chattanooga senior Jenna Nurik has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played through February 10, the league office announced today.  Nurik is 5-0 in singles and has helped the Lady Mocs start the year 5-0 for the first time since 1991.

UTC has won in decisive fashion this spring, posting four straight shutout victories for the first time in school history.

Competing at No. 1 singles, Nurik has won each of her matches in straight sets.  The Roswell, Ga., native  scored a (6-2, 6-4) victory over Middle Tennessee's Yuiri Nomoto to help the Chattanooga snap a 13-match losing streak to MTSU and give UTC its first victory in the series since 1999.

After defeating Lipscomb's Deahna Welcher (6-2, 6-0), Nurik cruised past Austin Peay's Alison Carre (6-3, 6-2) Friday.

Nurik and teammate Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) are 4-1 for the Lady Mocs at No. 2 doubles.  Following a loss to MTSU, Nurik and Chadwell responded with wins over Lipscomb's Welcher and Jenny Brock (8-6) and Austin Peay's Carre and Vanessa Tavares (8-0).

The Lady Mocs are back on the court on Saturday, Feb. 16, when they host Lee University at the Champions Club.  First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) and this is a double-header with the men's teams.  A link for live scoring is available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
