Lady Mocs Host Three Matches This Week

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team hosts three matches at the UTC Tennis Courts this week.  The Lady Mocs open with a non-conference dual against Murray State on Wednesday, followed by Southern Conference matches against Wofford and Furman over the weekend.

First serve against the Racers is set for 2:00 p.m. (E.D.T.).  Murray State is currently 4-6 overall and 1-1 in Ohio Valley Conference action.  The Lady Mocs are 5-2 all-time against MSU, including last year's 5-2 win on Feb. 12 in Murray, Ky.  This is the Racers first trip to Chattanooga since 2003.

UTC hosts Wofford on Saturday, March 23, at 2:00 p.m.  The Terriers are 5-6 overall and 1-1 in SoCon action.  Wofford lost to Georgia Southern (1-6) on March 3 and defeated Western Carolina (4-3) on March 9.  Chattanooga has won four in a row

in the series with Wofford, including last year's 5-2 victory in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Lady Mocs will try to snap a 21-match losing streak to the Paladins on Sunday, March 24.  First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.  UTC almost ended the drought last season, but lost 4-3 on March 25 in Greenville, S.C.  Chattanooga's last win in the series was a 4-3 victory on April 5 ,1997 in Greenville.

Furman is 5-6 overall and 1-0 in SoCon action with a 7-0 win over Georgia Southern on March 3.  The Paladins have faced ranked opponents in each of their last three matches, posting wins over No. 56 UC Santa Barbara (4-3) and No. 72 East Carolina (5-2) and a loss to No. 14 Clemson (1-6).

UTC is 11-2 overall and coming off a 5-2 win over Mercer last week.  The Lady Mocs were ranked No. 67 in the nation last week, but are not currently listed in the ITA Top-70.  

Freshman Kayla Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) leads the team with a 12-1 singles record in the spring.  She is 23-3 overall, seeing most of her time at the No. 3 spot.  Senior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.) is 11-2 at No. 1 while sophomore Kaylene Chadwell has the same record at No. 2.  Nurik and Chadwell lead the team with an 8-3 doubles record in the spring.
