The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team is on the road this week for a pair of Southern Conference matches.  UTC travels to East Tennessee State on Thursday, April 2, and Wofford on Friday, April 3. 

First place in the Southern Conference race is up for grabs when the Mocs visit the Bucs on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) in Johnson City, Tenn.  UTC, ETSU and Samford are all putting some distance between themselves and the rest of the league.

ETSU is currently 10-3 overall and undefeated in SoCon play at 3-0.  The Mocs (14-2) are tied with Samford (8-7) in second place at 2-0.  ETSU and Samford face each other on Saturday in Birmingham. Ala.

The Bucs have already beaten Wofford (7-0), Western Carolina (6-1) and Mercer (7-0).  ETSU is currently on a four-match winning streak and is undefeated in three contests at home. 

Lyn Yee Choo leads the team with a 10-1 mark, including seven straight wins at No. 1.  She and Ana Gerbasi team up at No. 1 doubles for a 6-1 mark in dual action. 

The Mocs counter with junior Kayla Jones.  The Memphis, Tenn., native is on the cover of this week's preview and has a 10-5 record at No. 1 with a four-match winning streak.  Jones and freshman Samantha Caswell make up the No. 1 doubles team for UTC.  They are 16-3 overall and 13-2 in the spring. 

Caswell is on a team-best five match winning streak and is 12-4 at No. 4.  Junior Alison Storie brings her four-match winning streak back to her hometown.  The Johnson City native is 12-2 at No. 6 this spring.

UTC went 2-3 in head to head singles matches against ETSU at the USC Upstate Invite in the fall.  One potential rematch could take place at No. 3. Senior Kaylene Chadwell lost a (6-3, 6-3) contest to Gerbasi in their previous meeting. 

The Mocs are 17-3 all-time against ETSU, but this is the first dual meet in the series since 2005.  The Bucs won that last matchup 7-0 in Johnson City. 

Match time on Friday at Wofford is set for 1:00 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.  The Terriers are 8-8 overall and 1-3 in SoCon matches.  They lost at Samford (7-0) in their last outing on March 29. 

Wofford is led by Kalli Karas who is 7-7 at No. 3 singles.  Catherine Martin and Mareli Sanchez make up the No. 2 doubles tandem who is 7-5 in the spring.

Chattanooga is 16-3 all-time against Wofford.  The Mocs scored a 7-0 win in last year's meeting, their sixth-straight win in the series.
