Lady Mocs Jump in the Top 10 at Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.---Chattanooga, ranked No. 30 in the Golfstat rankings, fired a final round 295 to jump from 13th up into a tie for ninth at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship at Fox Den Country Club. The Lady Mocs tied Kentucky while jumping Texas A&M, Furman and UCF.
Freshman Maria Salinas, the GoMocs.com spotlight player heading into the event, scored her second top 10 finish of the season. Salinas carded a two-under par 70 to move into a tie for 10th at 217, one-over par for the 54-hole event. She had three birdies to go with just one bogey for the round.
Sophomore Emma de Groot shook off a slow start to the tourney with an even par 72 to complete the event tied for 43rd. She was consistent with two birdies and two pars in her way around the par-72 trek finishing at 226 (+10).
Freshman Maju Loza had a disappointing final round of 79 (+7), but it was a solid event for her. Loza finished at plus-nine 225. Sophomore Christine Wolf's 76 placed her tied for 54th at 228 (+12), while junior Kayla Stewart shot 77 (+5) to finish tied for 72nd at 233 (+17).
LSU won the team title coming back from seven down to North Carolina behind a seven-under par 281. The Tigers shot one-over par 865, nine shots clear of the Tar Heels and North Carolina State at 874 (+10). N.C. State's Lauren Doughtie won medalist honors with a final round 68 (-4) to total 209 (-7).
The Lady Mocs return to action Friday, October 24, at the Derby Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event is hosted by Auburn at the AU Club in Auburn, Ala.
