Hangstefer Earns ITA Singles Rankings

| By:

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis sophomore Emily Hangstefer is currently ranked No. 102 according to the ITA Division I Singles National Rankings.  Hangstefer is the first Lady Moc to receive a national ranking since Anastasia Zhukova finished the 2007 season at No. 55.

Hangstefer, a Signal Mountain, Tenn. native, is currently 8-3 in singles action this season.  Her eight singles wins are tied for the team lead.  She has also teamed with freshman Jenna Nurik to post an 8-3 mark in doubles play.  The ITA ranks the top-125 singles players in the NCAA Division I.

"We are proud of Emily for earning an ITA singles ranking," stated head coach Jeff Clark.  "Her outstanding fall season put her on the map and shows how much she has improved over the past year.  We look for her to help lead the Lady Mocs to much team success this season."

Chattanooga is 0-2 in spring action, facing tough competition on the road against No. 10 Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee.  UTC opens its home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 13, against Mercer.  The match with the Bears is a doubleheader with the men's teams, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the Hixson Racquet Club.
