University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis sophomore Brianna Wishing received the 2009 USTA Tennessee Tennis Association Junior Girls Sportsmanship Award over the weekend. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native is in her second season with the Mocs and has a 6-3 singles record as a sophomore.
Wishing received the annual Sportsmanship honor on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the UTSA TTA Awards Luncheon in Franklin, Tenn. It is the second major Sportsmanship honor for Wishing in her UTC career. She also earned the Sportsmanship Award at the Tennessee State Junior Qualifying Tournament in Chattanooga last season.
"Brianna is deserving of this honor," stated Mocs head coach Jeff Clark. "She competes hard on the tennis court and treats her opponents with respect. Brianna represents her family and Chattanooga women's tennis with class."
Wishing is also an excellent student, making the Dean's List or Athletics Director's Honor Roll during each of her semesters at UTC. The Lady Mocs are back in action this weekend when they host Mercer at the Hixson Racquet Club. The match with the Bears is a doubleheader with the men's teams and is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.).
