CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
volleyball head coach Travis Filar announced the Lady Mocs spring schedule on Monday. It is
highlighted by two home matches against UAB on April 3 and an alumni match on
April 17. Times for the home contests will be announced at a later date.
The Lady Mocs started their spring preparations
on the court last week before the
team broke for spring break from March 12-20.
"The biggest thing about playing spring games is the chance
to compete against someone else across the net," said first-year head coach Filar. "We have had some limits on the
number of players so far this spring due to injuries. This has allowed us to focus on the fundamentals. These matches will give us the opportunity to evaluate
our training and see where we are throughout the spring."
On March 30, a trip to Belmont is the first meeting of the
spring for Chattanooga with a 7 p.m. (E.D.T) start in Nashville, Tenn.
UAB comes to the Scenic City to battle the Lady Mocs on
April 3 for the first home match at Maclellan Gym this spring.
The Lady Mocs then
travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the UAB Spring Tournament on April 9. The event
lasts the entire day with matchups against Jacksonville State, South Alabama,
West Florida, UAB and Troy.
To cap off the spring schedule, the Lady Mocs hold their
annual UTC Alumni match on April 17 at Maclellan Gym. All previous players are
welcome to come back to campus for the event.
"I am really excited about the alumni match because I know
that there are a lot of alumni in town and throughout the region," said Filar. "I
want them to feel really excited about the direction and vision for the Chattanooga volleyball program. Also, I want them to be a part of it by creating a connection
between former players and current players on the team. Everyone, no matter
when they played is still a part of the Chattanooga volleyball family."
Chattanooga finished last season with a 12-20 mark and 7-9
Southern Conference record. Sophomore libero Paula Passmore (Merritt Island,
Fla.) was selected as the SoCon Libero of the Year after leading the conference
in digs per set with 5.45 for the second-consecutive season.
