ATHENS, Ga.---The Chattanooga women's golf team shot 916 over 54 holes to finish 23rd at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at University of Georgia Golf Course. Sunday's 302 was the Mocs low for the tournament.
"It was a very frustrating weekend," said head coach Colette Murray. "We never got going...I never saw us compete. Coming in with such high hopes, we need to get back to work and get ready for conference."
The field featured 12 top 25 programs including five in the top 10. There were 41 top 100 individuals including the Mocs' Christine Wolf (Igls, Austria) at 87 and Emma de Groot (Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia) at 89.
de Groot led Chattanooga tying for 47th shooting 77, 76 and 76 for a 54-hole total of 229. That beat the top two ranked players in the nation in No. 1 Megan McChrystal of LSU at 231 and No. 2 Lindy Duncan of Duke at 234.
Wolf had the low round of the tourney for UTC with a one-over par 73 today to tie for 63rd at 232. She beat Duncan by two strokes.
The Mocs return to action in two weeks defending their Southern Conference Championship. The 2011 SoCon Championship is April 17-19 (Sunday-Tuesday) at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
