CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball
head coach Frank Reed has been a fixture in the Chattanooga softball community
for 20 years. The Lady Mocs RBI Club will hold an event celebrating Reed's
success at Chattanooga State and UTC on Saturday, July 30 at 6 p.m., at Country Place
Restaurant.
Tickets to the event cost $20 and will be sold at the door. Advanced
reservations can be made by calling Mike Burke at (423) 315-2046. Country Place
Restaurant is located at 7320 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, Tenn., 37421.
Administrators and assistants will share stories and
thoughts of working for Reed. Former players will also be on hand
to add some of their experiences.
Reed just finished his 10th season with the Lady Mocs
leading the squad to the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional final for the first time in program
history. During the 2011 season, Chattanooga compiled its best winning pct. at .759
(44-14) in the 18 years of the program.
Reed has received five
overall and four-straight Southern Conference Coach of the Year awards. The Lady
Mocs have advanced to the NCAA Tournament six times after capturing the SoCon
Tournament title, while earning seven SoCon Regular Season Championships. Reed has
compiled 399 total victories at Chattanooga.
Prior to taking over the program at UTC in August 2001,
Reed guided Chattanooga State to seven National Junior College Athletic Association
(NJCAA) World Series appearances over 10 years. He tallied 476 victories with
the Lady Tigers that included finishing the season ranked in the Top 10 eight
times.
During his stint with the Lady Tigers, Reed was named the
2001 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Coach of the Year and
elected to the National Softball Association (NSA) Hall of Fame in 2008.
Over his collegiate coaching career, Reed has tallied 875
career victories and earned 12 conference coach of the year honors.
