Ten-Team RBI Fall Classic Starts Saturday

| By:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team hosts the 10-team RBI Fall Classic this weekend at Frost Stadium and adjacent Warner Park. The Lady Mocs face off against Georgia on Saturday at 5:45 p.m., before battling Shorter University and Chattanooga State on Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.  Admission to the event is $5 per person each day.

Fans can follow the action during Sunday's doubleheader as Tyler Brown will provide the play-by-play commentary for the contests against Shorter and Chattanooga State. Links to the free audio broadcast can be found on the softball schedule page of GoMocs.com.

Action on Saturday starts at 11 a.m. as Motlow State plays Lipscomb at Warner Park Field 1, while Calhoun plays Middle Tennessee State at Frost Stadium. Also participating in the event is Tennessee Tech and Milligan with games being started every two hours and 15 minutes. The schedule for the tournament can be found under the article or via the link at the top of the page.

Each game will last a maximum of one hour and 45 minutes or seven innings to ensure that contests start on time. Free substitutions will also be utilized by the teams, so that additional student-athletes have an opportunity to participate and be evaluated by their coaching staffs.

Chattanooga began its fall season with a 9-2 victory against Tennessee Wesleyan on Sept. 24. Roane State came into Frost Stadium to play a doubleheader on Sept. 30 that the Lady Mocs won 17-0 after five innings and 5-0.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Deason (Clarksville, Tenn.) was impressive against Roan State in the second game tossing a complete-game two hitter, while fanning 11 opponents. Picking up the victory for Chattanooga in the first game was senior pitcher and designated player Michelle Fuzzard (Huntington Beach, Calif.) throwing four innings and striking out four.

Offensively, the Lady Mocs offense exploded for 12 runs in the first inning against Roane State as head coach Frank Reed felt that his student-athletes have come together as a team. Junior first baseman Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.) provided a 5-for-6 performance during the doubleheader driving in five runs.

Just as impressive in game two was senior catcher Vivian Morimoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) going 3-for-3 including a RBI double.

The final opportunity for fans of the Lady Mocs to see the team before the start of the spring season in February is the Blue-Gold Alumni Game scheduled for Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. Prior to the exhibition, the 2011 Chattanooga team that set numerous program records and advanced to the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional will be honored by unveiling three championship banners and a ring ceremony.
