CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga head softball coach Frank Reed announced that Sam Taylor (Chickamauga,
Ga.) has signed a national letter of intent on Friday to begin playing with the Lady Mocs in August 2012. Taylor is the six member of the 2012 class that includes Rachel
Albritton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Kaisey Carson (Indianapolis, Ind.), Anyssa
Robles (Hoschton, Ga.), Amanda Ross (Torrance, Calif.) and Alyssa Taylor
(Orange, Calif.).
"Sam fulfills a need for us as a leadoff hitter," said Reed.
"She led her high school in batting average and may be one of the best, pure hitters
that we have recruited here. We are excited about getting her involved in
fulfilling the leadoff spot that Lyndsey Stiles left [last year]."
Taylor is a local product that is a four-year
letterwinner at Gordon Lee High School coached by Dana Mull, who is a former Lady
Moc and daughter of coach Reed. The Chickamauga, Ga., native assisted the Lady
Trojans to their second-consecutive state title in October.
She has been selected at the state and region level to
the first team from 2009-10. The Chattanooga Times Free Press also named her to their "Best
of Preps" team following those seasons. She competed with the Mustang Softball
travel team coached by Eddie Towns during the offseason.
As a multisport athlete, Taylor participated on the
basketball and track and field teams during her first two years at Gordon Lee
(2008-09).
The Lady Mocs are continuing to prepare for the spring
season that begins in mid-February. Chattanooga will be looking to defend its fifth-consecutive
Southern Conference Regular Season title.
