CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team
concludes its spring slate on Sunday with its second-annual alumni match at
Maclellan Gym. First serve of the match is at 3 p.m., while coaches from around the Scenic City are welcomed to attend a free
coaches clinic starting at 1 p.m. The alumni match will be streamed for subscribers
of MocsVision with the link at the top of the page.
Sunday afternoon begins with head coach Travis Filar
inviting volleyball coaches from area middle and high school, YMCAs and even
colleges for a clinic at Maclellan Gym. Assistant coaches Savanah Parra and
Taylor Wittmer will aid Filar in conducting the clinic.
“This event provides an inside look at what Chattanooga volleyball
is doing this spring in the gym,” said Filar. “We will be sharing what we are
doing from a defensive stand point, philosophically. The coaching staff will demonstrate some of
the drills being incorporated into practice, so participants in the clinic can hopefully
share them with their players.”
Fans of the program are invited to watch the Mocs close up the spring season with an always exciting alumni match beginning at 3 p.m.
“It is really important in my mind to invite the past and foundation of the program back to be involved and supportive of what the current coaching staff is doing in moving the program forward,” said Filar. “The student-athletes are excited to meet the alumni and have one last opportunity to compete and wrap up the spring.”
Filar believes that this has been one of the toughest spring
that the student-athletes experienced and is proud in the hard work put in and
the progress that has been made.
“The teams has responded phenomenally to meet the current
demands and expectation on the court and in the weight room this spring,” said
Filar. “Looking back on where the teams started, it is great to see all the
effort that has been put in to make the team better going into the fall season.”
Chattanooga concludes its spring season following the event
and will begin preparations for the 2012 fall season in August.
