CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lady Mocs used a walk-off RBI single by junior shortstop Ninjja Suetsugu (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to clinch a 9-8 win in game one against UAB, but would fall in the nightcap, 6-2, at Frost Stadium. Freshman outfielder Cheyenne Willis (Manchester, Tenn.) and sophomore outfielder Stephanie Rieck (Chandler, Ariz.) at the top of the lineup combined for eight hits in the doubleheader.

Chattanooga with the split now stands at 28-14 overall, while UAB increases its record to 28-16 on the season following the game two win. The Lady Mocs snapped a 15-game winning streak at Frost Stadium with that loss.

The Lady Mocs connected on three home runs in the doubleheader that were struck by seniors catcher Vivian Morimoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and shortstop Jessica Traxler (Chino Hills, Calif.) and freshman third baseman Sarah Beth Roberts (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.).

Also adding multi-hit game for Chattanooga were senior pitcher Michelle Fuzzard (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and junior first baseman Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.). Roberts, Suetsugu and Morimoto tallied multi-RBI games during the doubleheader.

Earning the game one win in relief was Fuzzard, who tossed 2.1 innings and struckout five. Deason threw the first 4.2 innings and fanned five. Fuzzard (12-7) was tagged with the game two loss and Deason threw 5.1 strong innings of relief with two strikeouts.

UAB took advantage of mistakes by the Lady Mocs in the circle and registered six home runs that directly lead to 13 of the 14 runs in the twinbill. Kayla Orr blasted two homers in game one along with one from Kristen McGrath, while Heather Pearson, Catherine Crawford and Whitney Fletcher rounded the bases in game two.

The game two victory for the Blazers went to Amber Torres (7-3), who allowed nine hits, scattered over seven innings, and struck out seven. Lannah Campbell fell to 11-6 on the campaign with the loss in the first game.

Chattanooga returns to action with a doubleheader on Saturday against Samford with first pitch set for 2 p.m. The final of the series is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday. GAME ONE: CHATTANOOGA 9, UAB 8

UAB began the first with back-to-back singles by Fletcher and Crawford before Orr homered to left, providing the visitors with an early 3-0 lead. Deason settled down after that and retired the next three batters in order.

The Lady Mocs batted around in the bottom-half, scoring six runs on six hits. Willis started off the frame with a double down the left field line before Rieck singled to shallow center. Fuzzard cut the lead to 3-1 with a single to center. A sacrifice fly by Morimoto pushed across another run prior to Tydingco drawing a walk.

With the bases loaded, Traxler and Roberts walked to force in two runs and put the Lady Mocs up 4-3. Being plunked with a pitch was Suetsugu, and sophomore outfielder Layne Rainey (Clarksville, Tenn.) drove in a run with a single up the middle, 6-3.

Neither team notched a hit until the bottom of the third, when Traxler and Roberts registered back-to-back home runs to lead off the frame. It was the seventh round tripper for Traxler and the second for Roberts this season.

The Blazers began their comeback in the fifth as Pearson singled through the left side followed by a single by Crawford with one out. Orr, then, drove a pitch over the fence in center for her second three-run homer of the game. Cutting the Lady Mocs lead to one, 8-7, was McGrath with a solo shot to left center.

In the sixth, Willis and Fuzzard singled to put two runners on, but Chattanooga was unable to increase its lead.

Down to its last at bat was UAB and Fletcher drew a walk to start off the seventh. Fuzzard was able to quickly register the next two outs before a Mandy Lowman double would score the game-tying run.

Chattanooga had an opportunity in the seventh as Tydingco singled to left before consecutive fielder's choice groundout put two outs on the board. Roberts stole second to move into scoring position. The heroics came from Suetsugu, who connected on a single up the middle, driving in the game-winning walk-off run, 9-8.

GAME TWO: UAB 6, CHATTANOOGA 2

Chattanooga had an opportunity in the first to take an early lead as Willis and Rieck beat-out infield singles. A strange situation occurred as an infield fly that was called after the play caused a double play, which took away momentum, before UAB was able to record the final out.

In the second, the Blazers used a one-out double to left center by Lauren Webster, who was erased on the next play as third baseman Roberts cut down the lead runner at second on a fielder's choice. Singling to center was Erica Sisson and the two runners moved up 60 feet on a wild pitch. Pearson connected on a home run to start the scoring, 3-0.

Another single from Fletcher continued the frame before Crawford sent a pitch over the fence in left to increase the lead to 5-0.

The Lady Mocs would leave two runners stranded in the third as Willis reached on an error and Rieck singled to center.

To start off the bottom of the fourth, Morimoto hit a long home run just to the right of center to cut the UAB advantage to 5-1.

The Lady Mocs would tack on another in the fifth as Rainey singled to short, but would be gunned out at second for a caught stealing. Willis singled to center following a long battle with the pitcher Torres and Rieck drew a walk. A fielding error by the first baseman sent home the lone run of the frame, 5-2, as Chattanooga left two runners on base.

Increasing the UAB to four, 6-2, once again was Fletcher with a round tripper to right center.

Traxler began the sixth with a single to center and sophomore pinch hitter Kaiti Dutton (Tulsa, Okla.) came through with a single down the left field line to put two runners on. A sacrifice fly by Willis drove home the only run of the frame.

A two-out double by Tydingco down the left field line was the only hit in the final at bat for Chattanooga as the Blazers would secure the 6-3 win.
