CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga Mocs head women's golf
coach Colette Murray announced the signing of Emily McLennan (Queensland,
Australia) Tuesday. McLennan is one of the top juniors coming out of Australia.
McLennan sports an impressive resume ranking consistently
in the top five of Australian juniors in each of the last three years. A
graduate of Hills International in Jimboomba, Queensland, she attended Hills
Golf Academy, the same school as PGA Tour player Jason Day.
"I am excited about Emily," Murray commented. "She is one
of those you get that you are just over the moon about. Wonderful individual...she's
really excited about coming here and making a difference.
"She has a great playing resume," Murray continued. "Emily
has been in a very focused golf environment coming through the same school as
Jason Day. I'm just really excited about what she can potentially do for this
program."
McLennan played for her state of Queensland the last four
years in the Australian Teams Junior Championship captaining the team since her
15th birthday going undefeated in 2011 leading Queensland to the title. She represented
Golf Australia British Junior Open (2010), Callaway World Junior (2009, 2011)
and Jakarta World Junior Championships (2011).
Emily won the Tasmanian Girls Masters in 2010 and 2011
and has 14 other top 10s in both junior and women's amateur play since 2010
when she was named Queensland Golf Industry Junior Player of the Year. She captured
the 2010 New Caledonia Open, a professional event, while also competing in a
variety of professional tourneys: 2012 ISPS Handa New Zealand Women's Open
(Ladies European Tour & Australian LPGA), 2012 Women's Victorian Open
(Australian LPGA) & 2012 Bing Lee/Samsung Women's New South Wales Open
(Australian LPGA).
McLennan joins Isabella
Loza in the Mocs 2012 signing class. Loza, whose sister is current UTC
senior Maria Juliana, signed in the fall. She is the second Chattanooga women's
golfer from Australia following current LPGA Futures Tour performer Emma de
Groot.
