CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf
team was placed in the NCAA East Regional the NCAA announced Monday night. The East Regional is at the Penn State Golf
Courses Blue Course in State College, Pa. The tourney is schedule for May
10-12.
The Blue Course is par 72 playing at 6,253 yards. Its
shortest hole is the 142-yard par three 14th, while the 550-yard par five fifth
is the longest.
There are 24 teams and six individuals converging on
State College. The Mocs will tee off at 12:55 p.m., on Thursday, May 10, paired
with Augusta State and Campbell.
"This is the site we knew the least about," head coach
Colette Murray noted. "We made the championship field from Ohio State in 2009
and the boys played at Colorado National last year. It honestly does not matter
because no matter what else we have to prepare and play to advance."
In the five seasons of Mocs women's golf, Murray's
program has competed in regional play every season. Former SoCon Golfer of the
Year Emma de Groot (Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia) earned her way
in as an individual in 2008, while the team has gone the last three years.
This squad features three players with NCAA Regional
experience. Senior Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) helped lead UTC
to the postseason all four of her years. She earned All-Central Regional status
in 2011 finishing tied for eighth birdieing four of her final six holes.
Sophomores Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Marion
Duvernay (Publier, France) both played in last year's Central Regional at Notre
Dame. Britt is the 2012 SoCon Champion following her runner-up finish to de Groot
in 2011. Sophomore Sophie Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) and freshman Mette
Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) are getting their first taste of an NCAA Regional.
The top eight teams and two individuals on non-advancing
squads from each region move on to the NCAA Championship. The finals are May
22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
