CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga Mocs senior Maria
Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) was named to the Capital One Academic Division
I All-District team for District Three the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday. She is the first UTC women's golfer to be
so honored.
Loza is a two-time NGCA Scholar All-American and the Mocs'
female Dayle May Award winner for top academic senior. She is also a two-time
All-Southern Conference selection and has landed on the Dean's List every
semester at UTC.
She has a 3.97 grade point average in one of the toughest
collegiate disciplines, Mechanical Engineering. Loza has scored all A's with
just a solitary B on her academic ledger. That grade came in an English class,
her second language.
Loza completed her playing career with a tie for 19th
last week at the NCAA East Regional. She is just one of five Chattanooga
student-athletes (Emma de Groot, Stephan Jaeger, Fredrik Qvicker and Derek
Rende) in the golf programs to play in NCAA postseason play all four seasons.
District Three includes schools in Tennessee, North
Carolina and Virginia. The Academic All-District honorees advance to the
Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team
All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
