SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Chattanooga Mocs All-American
Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) captured his final Southern Conference honor
being named Golfer of the Month for May by the league office Thursday. It is the
fourth monthly honor of his career, third of 2011-12.
The senior followed up a record-setting performance in
winning the SoCon Championship in April with another in May. Jaeger set a new
UTC standard with his 13-under par total of 203 with a four-shot win at the
NCAA Bowling Green Regional leading the Mocs to their first NCAA postseason
golf title over UCLA, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Clemson among the
participants.
He opened with a 70 (-2) and followed with rounds of 67
(-5) and 66 (-6). He beat five top 20 golfers in the world at the time. He
topped No. 1 (Patrick Cantlay by 17 shots), No. 7 (Corbin Mills by 19), No. 16
(Anton Arboleda by 18), No. 19 (Sebastian Cappelen by 13) and No. 20 (Pedro
Figueiredo by 4).
Jaeger was named Golfer of the Month in March and April
sweeping the honor this year. He also claimed Golfer of the Week on March 28 for
his play at the Linger Longer Invitational.
His four Golfer of the Month awards ties for second-most
in league history with former teammate Jonathan Hodge (2006-09). Western
Carolina's Matt Cook won nine from 2005-08 but it was a year-around award for
three of his four seasons.
He became the first SoCon student-athlete to win three
Golfer of the Year awards this year. He is a four-time PING All-East Region
selection and became the first All-American First Team selection since Rhys
Davies (ETSU) and Aron Price (Georgia Southern) in 2005.
