CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The whirlwind week for Chattanooga Mocs senior golfer Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) continues Thursday. There is a campus-wide celebration for the United States Amateur Champion which is open to the public Thursday, August 23 from 2-3:30 p.m.
The reception will be, weather permitting, outside in Lansing Court adjacent to the University Center. There will be light appetizers and drinks. A program will begin with remarks at 2:30 p.m.
Fox's U.S. Amateur win captured the imagination and hearts of fans not only in Chattanooga, but around the world. The gallery of approximately 5,000 was solidly behind the Mocs star. Judging by analytics, he was just as popular online.
GoMocs.com, the official site of the Chattanooga Mocs, had its busiest August day ever on Sunday during Fox's drive to the championship. Overall visits were 61 percent higher, unique vistors 26 percent higher and page views 53 percent better than the previous best August day. Forty-two percent of all people who used a search engine to get to GoMocs.com searched for something to do with Steven Fox or the golf program.
Social media proved to be a big draw as well. Fox started the weekend with around 77 followers. As his Sunday drama unfolded and was chronicled by @GoMocsMGLF, that number shot through the roof. By Tuesday evening, his followers increased around 1200 percent to more than a thousand.
"It's been crazy," said Fox. "Between the facebook messages and all the new twitter followers, it really makes you realize just how important this championship is. I knew what it meant to me, but it sure means a lot to so many.
"I'm very honored to Chancellor Dr. Roger Brown and the campus community for the support and reception," Fox added. "It is very humbling."
