CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf
team opens its season Monday at Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup hosted by Louisville. The
Cardinal Golf Course in Simpsonville, Ky., hosts the event now in its second
year.
It's a quick start for the Mocs with two events in the
span of seven days. Following the trip to Louisville, UTC heads to Franklin,
Tenn., for the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship Friday through Sunday (Sept.
21-23).
"It's makes for a busy week, but I think we are ready to
get started," head coach Colette Murray said. "Louisville is a great place to get
our feet wet before Vandy over the weekend. The Mason Rudolph may be the
toughest field in college golf this year."
Two juniors return to the lineup in Jordan Britt
(Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Marion Duvernay (Publier, France). Britt was the 2012
Southern Conference Champion, while Duvernay had the best regular-season finish
of 2011-12 tying for fifth at the 2011 Golfweek Conference Challenge.
Sophomore Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) is back and also qualified
for the starting lineup to open the season. Two freshmen, Isabella Loza
(Bucaramanga, Colombia) and Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia), are slated
to make their first starts.
Loza is the younger sister of former Mocs Scholar
All-American Maria Juliana, while McLennan joins the program from Hills Golf
Academy in Australia, the same school as PGA Tour pro Jason Day. Sophomore
transfer Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) will play as an individual at the
Cardinal Cup.
"I'm excited about this group and getting this season started,"
Murray added. "I'm glad we will have all six in Louisville. Everyone gets a
chance to show what they've got right from the start."
The tournament opens on Monday, September 17, with 36
holes. It concludes with a final 18 on Tuesday. Follow @UTCmocsgolf on Twitter for
updates from the course. Live scoring and tee time links will be on GoMocs.com
when available.

LAST TIME OUT
This is the first tourney of the season for the Mocs. UTC ended 2011-12
participating in its fifth NCAA Regional in five seasons, fourth as a team.
UP NEXT
It's a quick turnaround for Chattanooga heading to the Nashville area at
the of the week. The Mocs are in the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship
starting Friday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Sept. 23. The tourney is played at
the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin.
NOTES
- UTC returns three
letterwinners, all starters from last year's Southern Conference Championship
squad, and add three newcomers to the mix. SoCon Medalist and all-conference
performer Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and fellow junior Marion Duvernay
(Publier, France) are back along with sophomore Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark).
All three started all 10 tournaments for the Mocs in 2011-12.
- Chattanooga's trio of newcomers
each have an interesting story. Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) is a
sophomore transferring from the University of British Columbia. She is the Mocs
first Canadian. Isabella Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) is a freshman following
in the footsteps of her sister Maria Juliana who just completed her four-year
career in May. Another freshman, Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia) went to
the same golf academy down under as PGA Tour golfer Jason Day.
-
The first starting lineup includes all three returnees - Duvernay, Britt
and Kryger - with Loza and McLennan. Campbell is on the trip playing as an
individual.
- This is the first visit to the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup
for the Mocs. The last three years they have opened with the Golfweek
Conference Challenge.
- The 2011-12 Chattanooga Mocs
women's golf team again ranked among the nation's smartest. UTC was No. 21
overall and No. 10 among NCAA Division I programs according to the National
Golf Coaches Association.
The Mocs had a combined grade point average of 3.621 for the academic
year. That total was just a tick off of 2010-11's 3.649 that ranked 20th
overall and 13th in Division I. Maju Loza and Kryger paced the academic effort
with perfect 4.0 GPA's for the year. Loza majors in Mechanical Engineering,
while Kryger studies are in Communications.
- Duvernay just missed the top 10
at the European Amateur shooting a level-par total of 284. She shot rounds of
67, 70, 73 and 74 at Diners Golf and Country Club in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It
was her top summer finish against a strong field.
- Kryger had a very active summer
schedule. Her best finish came in her home country of Denmark. She ended up
third at the Danish International Ladies Championship in Silkeborg Golf Club.
Kryger was a semifinalist at the Danish Ladies Match Play.
- McLennan won three times with
14 other top 10s since 2010 playing in junior, women's amateur and pro events.
She was the 2010 and 2011 Tasmanian Girls Masters Champ as well as the 2010 New
Caledonia Open (pro event) winner.
- Loza owns wins on two
continents. She won the 2011 Colombia National Championship and AJGA Preseason
Junior at the Bridges. She also qualified for the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur.
- Campbell is a three-time junior
winner in Canada. She competed in four events for the University of British
Columbia (NAIA) in 2009-10.
- The six Mocs come from six
different countries: Britt (American), Campbell (Canadian), Duvernay (French),
Kryger (Danish), Loza (Colombian) and McLennan (Australian).
