CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs (2-5/0-1) dropped an 81-55 decision to Davidson (4-3/1-0) in their Southern Conference opener Saturday night at McKenzie Arena. The Wildcats held UTC to one field goal for nearly nine minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach.
Tyler Kalinoski and Clint Mann combined for 28 points off the bench for Davidson with 15 and 13, respectively. De'Mon Brooks (14) and Jake Cohen (12) joined the duo in double digits.
Davidson led 39-26 at the break. McGhee's three-pointer at 17:34 of the second half cut the Wildcats margin to 10, 42-32. But the Mocs could not build on that momentum.
UTC went 8:34 of clock time making just one field goal shooting one-for-seven from the field and three-for-eight from the free throw line fueling a 19-5 Wildcats run. Four of the Mocs' 12 turnovers came during that stretch as well.
The shooting was as cold as the temperatures. Chattanooga shot 30 percent (15-50) from the field and 25 percent (3-12) from three-point range for the game. A dominant team on the glass, the Mocs were matched at 37 rebounds by their opponents this evening.
Davidson shot 50 percent (12-24) in the second half to pull away from UTC. Its 14 three-pointers made is a season high against the Mocs.
