Soccer Preseason Update: Forwards

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team has worked hard in the preseason to prep for the 2013 schedule that features 10 Southern Conference matches, nine home contests and a tournament at Gardner-Webb. Today we are featuring the midfielders.

There is nothing flashy about the Mocs soccer program in the forward position, but there is a variety of abilities and solid play that could lead the program in a new direction.

Junior Andi Argueta (Clarksville, Tenn.) along with sophomores Melanie Arredondo (Tampico, Mexico), Skylar Brewer (Farragut, Tenn.) Loryn Queen (Lanesville, Ind.) and Hannah Wyatt (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) will be joined by freshman Monica Speth (Janesville, Wisc.) along the front line.

Wyatt, the top returning scorer from last year’s squad can move from midfield to striker as needed while newcomer Speth has strength and an ability to attack. Brewer and Arrendondo also have the talents to play multiple positions and provide a much needed depth to the squad.

The Mocs host Austin Peay Friday, August 23 to open the 2013-14 season of athletics for Chattanooga. This will be the eighth meeting between the two schools with the Lady Govs holding a 4-3 advantage. APSU won the last meeting 4-1 on the road. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Finley Stadium.
