Mocs Tied for Third behind Robb’s Strong Start

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team is tied for third with No. 10 Virginia Tech at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at Grandover Resort. The Mocs and Hokies each shot three-over par 291 on a cold day in the North Carolina mid-state.

“We were scheduled for 36 holes, but were only able to get in 18,” Head Coach Mark Guhne said. “There was a heavy frost that delayed the start nearly three hours. We got 18 in. I am pleased with our start.”

Guhne was especially happy with his senior Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland). Robb, the event’s defending champ, continued his fine play at Grandover’s East Course with a two-under par 70.

“Chris played really well today…really well,” Guhne smiled. “He is so talented and that really showed today.”

Robb’s minus two tally is his second best of the season. It also makes him 11-under through 72 holes at the course. He is currently third, two shots behind North Carolina’s Henry Do.

Fellow Scot Ewan Scott (St. Andrews) is tied for fourth, one behind Robb at 71 (-1). He is minus eight over his last 90 holes.

Knoxville natives Wes Gosselin and Davis Bunn rounded out the team scoring. Gosselin shot 74, while Bunn recorded a 76. Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) had the drop score with a 77. Individual Stuart Thomas (Knoxville) turned in a 75 today.

North Carolina has the lead at the tourney’s midpoint. The Tar Heels shot an even-par 288. UNCG is second at 290 with Chattanooga and Virginia Tech right behind. N.C. State is another shot back in fifth at 292.

Tomorrow’s second round starts at 8:30 a.m., Eastern time witha shotgun start for the Mocs. Click the link above to access live scoring over the final 36 holes and follow @GoMocsMGLF on Twitter for updates.
