Chattanooga Climbs to Third with 18 Holes to Play

PINEHURST, N.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs got off to a better start Monday which propelled the squad to a four-under par 284. That moved the Mocs up to third on the leaderboard heading into Tuesday’s final round at National Golf Club.

Chattanooga’s 581 total through 36 holes is five behind the pace set by Western Carolina. The Catamounts shot 282 for its second 18 and is four strokes clear of Georgia Southern in second at 580. UNCG lurks in fourth at 585.

Seniors Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) carried the day for the Mocs. The duo combined for an eight under total with eight birdies, 28 pars and nary a bogey between them.

Bunn started with seven consecutive pars. He followed with birdies on eight, 10 and 11 to get to minus three. He got two more on 14 and 17 to reach five under and match his career-best round of 67. Robb’s began with a birdie on one for the second straight day. He tallied two more on five and 10 for his 69.

Wes Gosselin (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a one over 73, while Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) added a 75. Ewan Scott (St. Andrews, Scotland) had the drop score with a 78.

The Mocs made the turn at four-under par and played the back side at level for the 284. The squad turned in 16 birdies which are one off the season high of 17 recorded in the final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge in September.

WCU’s J.T. Poston is the individual leader at 10-under (206). That’s eight strokes better than Roy Dixon and Carter Jenkins of UNCG at two under. Robb and four others are tied for fourth at minus one.

Chattanooga tees off at 8:50 a.m., to open the final 18. Scott is off first followed by Gosselin (9:00), Bunn (9:10), Johnston (9:20) and Robb (9:30). The Mocs are paired with Western Carolina and Georgia Southern. Click the links above for tee times and live scoring.
