The Southern Conference women's tennis regular season title is on the line this weekend when the Chattanooga Mocs host Samford at the UTC Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) in the regular season finale for both teams.
UTC is closing out one of its best seasons in recent history. The Mocs are 17-2 overall and unbeaten in SoCon play at 5-0. Samford is 12-8 and also undefeated in league play at 6-0. Chattanooga will play one less conference match after Sunday's rainout at Mercer.
The annual team cookout is schedule for Saturday, but the indoor courts at Manker Patten is the backup site for the contest in case inclement weather hits the area. Live scoring is available on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com
SENIOR DAY
Saturday is also Senior Day for the Mocs. Kaylene Chadwell, Claire Mulyadi and Jovanna Pecovski close out their home careers against the Bulldogs.
Pecovski is a three-year letter winner who transferred to Chattanooga from Oklahoma State in the fall of 2012. The Apatin, Serbia, native is 21-12 in her career in singles and 15-9 in doubles play over the last three seasons. She is majoring in Biology
Mulyadi came to UTC from Semarang, Indonesia, and has solidified the bottom part of the lineup throughout her career. She earned second team All-SoCon doubles honors last season and is a two-time Academic All-SoCon selection.
Mulyadi is 15-4 at No. 5 this spring and has a 13-7 overall record in doubles play. The Business major has a 46-25 career mark in singles and 30-22 record in doubles play.
Chadwell is a four-year letter winner from Franklin, Tenn. She is a first team All-SoCon doubles pick from a year ago and a two-time Academic All-SoCon and two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete.
Majoring in Communications, Chadwell is 20-7 in both singles and doubles this season. Her career marks stand at 82-39 in singles and 85-36 in doubles.
SOCON CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE LINE
The winner of Saturday's match will be the SoCon Regular Season Champions. UTC has won six SoCon titles in school history, but none since 1997. Samford is looking for its first SoCon title.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
Samford is led by Stephanie N'tcha who is 13-6 at No. 1. Yasmeen Ebada is 11-9 at No. 2 and is the current SoCon Player of the Week. The Bulldogs are 31-5 in singles play in SoCon matches. N'tcha and Carita Moolman are ranked No. 82 in the nation in doubles. They have a 13-5 record at No. 1 while the team is 15-3 in SoCon doubles matches.
ALL-TIME VS. SAMFORD
The Mocs are 12-13 all-time against Samford, including a pair of losses last season. Chattanooga has only won two of the last nine meetings in the series.
KET MATCHUPS
Both the Mocs and Bulldogs are undefeated at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 in SoCon play. The league player of the year award is probably on the line in the top match between N'tcha and junior Kayla Jones.
Freshman Samantha Caswell lost in three sets to Moolman at the UTC Baras Tournament in the fall. That is the likely matchup at No. 4. Junior Alison Storie and Savannah Wood meet for the first time at No. 6.
