Mocs Fall to Davidson in SoCon Opener

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men's tennis team fell 5-2 to Davidson in the Mocs' Southern Conference opener Tuesday afternoon at the Manker Patten Tennis Courts.

The Mocs fall to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in league play while the Wildcats improve to 4-6 overall and even out their SoCon record at 1-1.

Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostikov netted a pair of wins for Chattanooga. Sauska and Vostrikov paired up to get the Mocs' lone win in the doubles matches defeating Eric Noble and Walker Lyons 8-7(6), but the Wildcats would snare the two remaining matches by identical 8-2 margins.

In singles, Sauska dropped his first set to Lyons 6-4 then came back to win the second 7-5. Sauska would win the super tie-break to claim the match and move to 4-4 on the year. Vostrikov defeated Noble in much the same way falling in the opening set 6-4 then coming back to tie the match with a 7-5 win in the second set and claim the win in a super tie-break and improve to 5-3 at No. 2.

Davidson won the remaining four singles matches. Scott Myers defeated Alex Butnarcuic 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 and Rick van de Bovenkamp fell 6-2, 6-3 to Calum Gee at No. 4. Davidson's Arie Hefter defeated Dakota Pate 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and David Warren posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Tyler Pullen at No. 6.

The Mocs will host Elon Saturday at the UTC Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
