Mocs Travel to Oklahoma for Men?s Golf Regional

| By:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---It's O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A, Oklahoma!  That is the site for the Chattanooga men's golf team as it begins its quest for the 2009 NCAA Golf Championship as announced by the NCAA Monday evening.  It is the third regional appearance for the Mocs.  The regional will be played at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., May 14-16.

Chattanooga is the No. 5 seed behind host Oklahoma State, Arkansas, TCU and LSU.  Following the Mocs are Pepperdine, Michigan State, Baylor, Northwestern, Tulsa, Denver, Wichita State and Oral Roberts.  There are also 10 individuals at the site.

There are six regional sites this year to provide the field for the NCAA Finals May 26-30 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.  The low five teams from each regional as well as low individual not on an advancing team will continue on to Toledo.

The Mocs are making their third regional appearance in an attempt to qualify for their first finals opportunity.  UTC is not the only Southern Conference representative as Georgia Southern is the No. 9 seed in the regional taking place in Sorrento, Fla.

“We are excited to learn where we are heading,” said Head Coach Mark Guhne.  “This is the first step and it is a doozy.  Every site is loaded with strong teams and Stillwater is no exception.

“I've never been to Oklahoma...wouldn't be shocked if this is the first trip there for everyone on the team.”

The Stillwater Regional features five top 30 teams with two in the top 10 (No. 4 Oklahoma State & No. 9 Arkansas).  TCU is No. 16 with LSU coming in at No. 21 and Chattanooga at No. 28.
