Chattanooga takes on the Western Carolina Catamounts Friday and Appalachian State Catamounts Saturday to close out the regular season.
Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season on the Road

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team wraps up its regular season schedule this weekend on the road. Chattanooga (12-17, 6-8 SoCon) will take on Western Carolina (8-21, 4-10 SoCon) Friday night in Cullowhee, N.C., before traveling to Boone, N.C., Saturday to square off against Appalachian State (7-21, 3-11 SoCon).

Western Carolina enters the weekend mathematically in the race for a berth in the Southern Conference Tournament, but Chattanooga's magic number stands at one as both teams have just two matches to play. The two teams face off Friday night at 6 p.m. with UTC in the hunt for its first postseason berth since the 2008 season.

WCU downed the Mocs earlier in the season at Maclellan Gym as UTC fell 3-1 on Sept. 22 for its first home loss. The Catamounts held Chattanooga to a .134 hitting percentage during the routing of the Mocs, but Chattanooga is coming off a two-win weekend over UNCG and Elon as both teams defeated UTC earlier in the season, as well.

"Davidson has been our goal all season long," head coach Travis Filar said. "We made making the SoCon Tournament our driving force from the start and this team wants it. We had two big wins last weekend and we just have to stay the course."

The Mocs wrap up the season Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in Boone, N.C., against the Mountaineers. Chattanooga took three sets from ASU on Sept. 21 at Maclellan Gym to claim its first SoCon win of the season. Since visiting UTC, App State has won three of its last 13 games, but the Mountaineers are a tough 4-3 at home this season. The Mocs look to carry the same momentum from their wins over Elon and UNC Greensboro into the Holmes Center.

The Mocs go into the weekend looking to improve on a 1-8 road record. Chattanooga currently ranks in the top 10 in six statistical SoCon category, including a second place ranking with 17.94 digs per set. UTC ranks seventh in both service aces and opponent hitting percentage, as well.

Senior Paula Passmore (Merritt Island, Fla.) currently holds a 6.29 digs per set average to lead the SoCon, ranking second in the NCAA. The libero has recorded double-digit digs in each of the Mocs 29 matches this season and has six matches in which she has claimed 30-or-more digs. She has two 40-plus digs matches this season.

Freshman Briana Reid (Houston, Texas) is coming off a SoCon Freshman of the Week campaign in which she recorded three double-doubles in a row, including her career-best 17-kill performance against UNCG last Saturday. Reid also set a new career-high with 28 digs against Elon last Friday night while leading the Mocs offense with 14 kills.

Both matches can be followed online via live stats for free while video will be provided by the hosting schools. Links for both video and live stats can be found on the Mocs schedule page.
