Mocs Battle Campbell Tonight for Outright SoCon Title
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team hosts Campbell in Maclellan Gym at 6:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) tonight.  The Mocs (10-6, 6-0 SoCon) have already locked up no worse than a tie for the 2013 Southern Conference Regular Season Title and can win the trophy outright with a victory against the second-place Camels (7-9, 5-1 SoCon) tonight. 

Match time has been moved up an hour to 6:00 p.m. from 7:00 p.m. start time on most printed schedules.  The Lady Mocs basketball team is also competing for a SoCon title tonight, hosting Davidson in McKenzie Arena at 7:00 p.m.

This is Senior Night for four Mocs, including Niko Brown, Josh Condon, Dean Pavlou and Robert Prigmore.

Tickets
Tickets are $5 for the match and available at the gate or on GoMocs.com.  Doors open at 5:00 p.m.  Fans can take their ticket stub to McKenzie Arena and get in the women's basketball game for free tonight.

The Mocs are 10-6 on the year, and 6-0 in SoCon action.  Four of the six losses have come against ranked teams in No. 16 Virginia (9-26), No. 2 Iowa (6-37), No. 2 Oklahoma State (9-41) and No. 9 Illinois (10-29).

  • Head Coach Heath Eslinger is 44-28 in four years with the Mocs. He just passed his collegiate coach, Mark Leen, for No. 4 on the Mocs head coaching wins list. Leen was 43-35-1 (.551) in six seasons from 1996-01.
  • Senior Niko Brown (197) is 14-0 in dual matches and has a team-high eight pins.
  • Senior Josh Condon (165) is 5-0 in SoCon matches with five pins.
  • The Mocs already have wrapped up at least a tie for their 27th SoCon Championship since joining the league in 1978.

The Camels at 7-9 on the year and is second place in the SoCon at 5-1.  Their lone loss in SoCon action was a 16-15 setback to Appalachian State on Jan. 15.

The key matchup will take place at 125 between the Mocs Nick Soto and the Campbell's Eric Montoya.  Both are undefeated in SoCon action at 6-0.  Montoya leads the Camels with a 31-12 record while Soto is 23-6 overall. 

Campbell's Brent Jorge is 5-5 overall at 149, but 5-1 in SoCon matches, while Nick Rex has a 4-1 record at 157 in league contests.  Paul Duggan is also 4-1 in the SoCon at 165.  John Merickel has a 5-1 mark in league action at 197 while Joe Nolan is 4-2 at heavyweight. 

MOCS VS. CAMPBELL
The Mocs are 4-0 all-time against Campbell.  The Camels joined the SoCon as a wrestling affiliate last season.  UTC won that match Buies Creek 30-7 on Jan. 20, 2012.

SOTO & BROWN RANKED THIS WEEK
Sophomore Nick Soto is No. 17 according to Intermat and No. 18 in the WIN rankings this week.  He is also listed at No. 18 in the AWN rankings.  Soto is 23-6 overall with an 13-3 mark in dual matches.  He finished second at the Wolfpack Open and won the Hokie Open earlier in the year.  Senior Niko Brown is No. 18 in this week's AWN top-20 at 197 pounds.  He is currently 26-3 overall and undefeated in dual matches at 14-0.

FIVE UNDEFEATED IN SOCON ACTION
The Mocs have five wrestlers undefeated in SoCon play this season.  Senior Josh Condon leads the way with five pins in five league bouts.  Senior Niko Brown and sophomore Nick Soto are both 6-0 at 197 and 125, respectively.  Junior Alex Hudson and freshman John Lampe have 4-0 records at 149 and 174, respectively.
