CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Nathan Wanuch (Mississauga, Ontario) edged out his nearest competitor on March 29 in the men’s 5000 meter run at the Georgia Tech Invitational for the fourth-best time in the USTFCCCA South Region.
Wanuch posted a time of 14:42.54, three-hundredths of a second better than Georgia State’s Valentin Poncelet, to claim the top spot in the distance event. Auburn’s Niklas Buhner posted the top time in the region at 14:07.92. Belmont’s Matt Miller is second at 14:20.30 and Austin Duckworth of Alabama posted the third-best time this season in the South Region at 14:32.42.
In the season-opening USF Bulls Invitational, Wanuch won the 3000 meter Steeplechase by more than one minute posting a personal best time of 9:21.03. That time is the fifth-best in the South Region. Florida State’s Zak Seddon holds the top time in the region at 8:45.63 followed by Elias Chesire of Florida A&M with a time of 9:10.15. Mississippi State’s John Valentine posted a time of 9:13.99 for third best in the region with Middle Tennessee’s Robinson Simatei fourth with a time of 9:19.73.
The Mocs return to the track Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13 for the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee at the Tom Black track in Knoxville.
