The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga put 22 student-athletes on the 2013 Spring Academic All-Southern Conference Team, the league office announced this week. Chattanooga led the SoCon with three student-athletes carrying a 4.0 cumulative grade-point-average among its spring sports.
The spring Academic All-SoCon team honored student-athletes from the sports of baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. All 12 SoCon institutions were represented on the team that consisted of 321 student-athletes.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA entering the spring season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams’ competitions during the recently concluded spring campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
The three Mocs who carried a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA into the spring semester included track & field sophomores Rachel Greenwall and Patrick O’Brien and women’s golf sophomore Mette Kryger. There were 13 total student-athletes among the SoCon spring sports with a 4.0 cumulative GPA.
Other Mocs notables on the Academic All-SoCon team were All-SoCon athletic honorees Jordan Britt (women’s golf), Jenna Nurik (women’s tennis) and Sara Poteat (softball). The Lady Mocs outdoor track & field team had the most representatives with five, followed by four each from women’s tennis and softball.
