Mocs Wrestling Recognized for Social Media Efforts

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team is a finalist for two national awards for its social media marketing campaigns.  UTC is up for the Gold Standard Award and The Masterful Mission Award, presented as a part of the Best of Brand Awards. 

The Best of Brand Awards were founded by Elite Level Sport Marketing CEO Coyte Cooper with the National Wrestling Coaches Association.  The winners of the Best of Brand awards will be announced Saturday, August 3rd at the breakfast session at the NWCA Convention.

The Gold Standard Award, recognized as the highest honor in the Best of Brand program, works to highlight the college programs that have set a unique standard in marketing their programs in an innovative manner.  In addition to honoring both content and messaging produced by a program, the Gold Standard award recognizes the number of followers a program has and how they interact with them.  Finalists include UTC, Drexel, Iowa State, Maryland, N.C. State and Purdue.   

UTC Wrestling’s Facebook page provides the most personal look at the program and through its posts and content has earned over 3,800 page likes. On Twitter, Chattanooga Wrestling is Chattanooga strong with over 2,500 followers and 5,000 tweets.  They have used both mediums effectively to build their “Chattanooga Strong” brand with followers.  The Mocs can be found on facebook at /UTCWrestling and on Twitter @UTCWrestling.

The Masterful Mission award recognizes the program that best branded itself during the 2012-2013 season via social network sites. The selection committee looks for programs with well-rounded values that embrace their universities’ missions.  Along with the Mocs, finalists include Ithaca College, Iowa State, Duke, Mizzou and Rutgers.

UTC came into the competition as the returning winner in the category and built on their efforts with their “Chattanooga Strong” mantra. Similar to last year, they featured a wide range of content that included athletic success, academic achievement and community service initiatives.
