SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sophomore Teghan Henderson (Pickering, Ontario) and senior Lucas Cotter (Collierville, Tenn.) were selected the Runners of the Week by the Southern Conference coaches the league office announced Wednesday.
Henderson outran her nearest competitor by more than 25 seconds Friday evening at the Mocs’ season-opening PowerAde Invitational. She ran the 2-mile course in 10:58.10, placing her time among the Top Five at Moccasin Bend. Henderson took the lead from the gun and was never challenged as she led the women’s team to the win.
Cotter posted his best time ever at Moccasin Bend, his home course, with a time of 15:35, more than eight seconds better than MTSU’s All-American Eliud Rutto who placed second. He led the Mocs to a top place finish, edging the Blue Raiders by four points. Cotter, a two-time all-conference selection returns to the course this year after a limited campaign last season due to injury.
The Mocs return to action Friday, Sept. 20 at the Georgia State Invitational at the Nash Farm Battlefield Park in Hampton, Ga.
