The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team opens Southern Conference action this Friday against Davidson in the first of a three-game home stand. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. at Finley Stadium.

The Mocs head into conference play with a 4-3 overall mark with wins over Tennessee Temple, UNC Asheville, South Carolina State and Tennessee Tech. UTC has outscored opponents 45-39 with a 16-13 goals scored advantage despite being outshot 102-82 by its opponents. Junior Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.) and sophomore Clare Latham (Cordova, Tenn.) lead the team in scoring each with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Mackezyk leads the team with 23 shots with 14 on goal. Sophomore Hannah Wyatt (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) and freshman Monica Speth (Janesville, Wisc.) have a team-high three assists each. Wyatt has two goals and is third on the team in scoring with seven points, Speth is fourth with one goal and five points. Chattanooga’s two keepers have shared time in goal this season with sophomore Lauren Thomas (Germantown, Tenn.) earning four starts and while senior Taylor Mangrum (Franklin, Tenn.) has made each of the last three starts. Thomas has 24 saves and a shutout while Mangrum has given up just four goals for a 1.19 goals against average through five games and a 3-1 record.

The Wildcats earned their first victory of the season in its last outing with a 1-0 double-overtime victory against Charlotte at home. It was just the second goal scored by Davidson this season. The other was a 2-1 loss at Winthrop. After falling 2-0 to East Carolina in the season opener, the Wildcats tied the next three matches, all double-overtime scoreless affairs. Davidson has allowed 11 goals and 15 assists. Jenni Isaac and Dani Johnson have each recorded a goal for the Wildcats while keeper Rachel Lock has a 1.12 goals against average with 47 saves. Despite a 1-5-3 record, she has four shutouts.

Chattanooga vs. Davidson
Davidson leads the series with Chattanooga 16-1-1. Davidson won the first seven matches beginning in 1996, UTC’s first year fielding a women’s team. Chattanooga managed a 0-0 tie with the Wildcats in 2003 then blanked Davidson 4-0 the next season. However, Davidson would go on to win the next nine.

Last year Davidson posted a 3-0 shutout of Chattanooga in the Southern Conference opener for both teams. The Wildcats outshot UTC 25-9 with a 12-4 shots on goal advantage.
