DECEMBER ON THE ROAD - UP NEXT: AUSTIN PEAY
The Chattanooga women's basketball team started its eight-game road odyssey on November 29 against Minnesota in Hawai'i. That is now getting close to the finale with Game #7 at Austin Peay Tuesday night.
Chattanooga is 8-3 overall and opened the Southern Conference schedule with back-to-back wins at UNCG and Elon over the weekend. The starting lineup features seniors Alex Black, Taylor Hall and Ashlen Dewart along with freshmen Chelsey Shumpert and Aryanna Gilbert. Hall has recorded six consecutive double-doubles and has seven on the year (15 career). Dewart, with two double-doubles in three games, was named the SoCon Player of the Week. She averaged 20.7 ppg and 7.7 rpg over the three games last week.
Austin Peay is 3-6 on the year and has not yet opened OVC play. The Lady Govs have dropped three straight heading into Saturday's game including a loss at No. 7 Louisville in its last outing. Junior Kristen Stainback leads the Lady Govs in the three December contests with 32 points (10.7 ppg), making 14-of-34 (41.2 percent) from the floor. She led Austin Peay with a 14-point performance at Louisville, Saturday. Sophomore Jennifer Nwokocha has added 24 points, including her eight second-half points at Louisville. Austin Peay’s roster is dominated by five sophomores and five freshman for the 2013-14 campaign. Three sophomores – guard Tiasha Gray and forwards Jennifer Nwokocha and Alexis Hardaway – dot the APSU starting five and the second-year quintet is contributing 28.7 points per game.
