CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Former Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf star Chris Robb continues to add laurels to an impressive 2014. Robb has rolled through seven rounds of match play at the Fairstone Scottish Amateur Championship at Downfield Golf Club. He squares off against Graeme Robertson in the finals Saturday morning.
Robb began his Friday with a 3&1 win over Jack McDonald. McDonald won the first two holes and regained the 2up margin with a birdie on six. Robb won seven with a birdie and squared the match with a par on nine.
It remained even before a birdie-eagle-par-birdie-birdie run over the next five holes gave Robb a 3&1 win. McDonald played the same stretch at 2-under par, but he could not match Robb’s furious pace.
That put him in the semifinals against Northwestern junior Josh Jamieson. Jamieson had just defeated British Am champ Bradley Neil 3&2. Rob picked up where he left off in the morning match with a birdie on one. His par on two made it a 2up lead early.
Jamieson cut the margin in half with a birdie on four, but Robb extended it again to 2up with a birdie on nine. His birdie-par effort of 13 and 14 pushed it to a 4up lead and dormie status. The duo halved 15 with birdies earning the win for Robb. Robertson earned his place with a 6&4 win over Barry Hume.
Robb’s run through the field has been impressive. Prior to this morning’s match reaching 17, he made it the 15th hole just once capturing 4&3, 7&5, 5&4, 5&4 and 5&4 victories along the way.
It has been a tremendous 2014 for the native of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He earned GCAA/PING All-America honorable mention honors tying for 15th at the NCAA Championships in May. He made it to the round of 16 at the British Amateur before capturing wins at the East of Scotland Championship and Cameron Corbett Vase.
