Gold Edges Blue 21-19 in Blue-Gold Tipoff
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga fans got their first look at the Lady Mocs basketball team in the annual Memorial Blue-Gold Tipoff presented by Praters Tuesday night at the McKenzie Arena. The Gold team edged the Blue 21-19 in the 10-minute period in front of nearly 1,000 fans.

Junior post Ashlen Dewart (Spartanburg, S.C.) went 5-for-7 from the field to pace the Gold Team to the victory. Sophomore Ka'Vonne Towns was 3-for-3 from the field for six points and dished out a team-high-tying two assists. The Gold Team was 10-of-18 (55.6%) from the field and outrebounded the Blue Team 10-5 with seven assists. However, the Gold missed all five attempts from beyond the arc.

The Blue Team was 8-of-15 (53.3%) from the floor getting a trio of 3-pointers from juniors Taylor Hall (New Tazewell, Tenn.), Faith Dupree (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Alex Black (Memphis, Tenn.). Dupree led all scorers with 11 points making all five of her attempts with one assist and one blocked shot in seven minutes. Hall and Black each had three with senior Kayla Christopher (Oliver Springs, Tenn.) chipping in the last two. Junior Destiny Bramblett (Radcliff, Ky.) had three of the Blue Team's five rebounds.

The Lady Mocs return to the floor Thursday night in an exhibition matchup with NAIA Lee University. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m. at the McKenzie Arena. Tickets are on sale at the box office or online at

Head Coach Wes Moore
Blue-Gold Exhibition
Tuesday, October 30, 2012

On the exhibition and enjoyment of the event
"With us having an exhibition game Thursday, we probably didn't feel quite as big a need as Coach Shulman did to get out in front of the fans and turn the lights on and all that, but it was still fun to be out in front of the great people we have that support us here and it was really a pretty good turnout for a blue-gold event. It was good for our kids to be out there and be loose and have some fun. That's what it was all about - it was about having a little bit of fun."

On Ashlen Dewart having her in a UTC uniform
"She can score. She and Faith can score, but they were guarding each other so I don't know what that says, but Ashlen has got great hands. She is an excellent passer when people do try to collapse on her. She has a lot of offensive skills. Faith can step out and shoot it and score on the block and does a lot of things for us. They're going to be a good tandem. Having both will allow us to stay fresh and give us quite a few fouls if we do have to use them. I'm glad they're both on our side."

On playing Dupree and Dewart together
"Probably not. They are both true five players and matchup-wise I could see where they could give people a problem offensively if we had them in there together. We might have a problem defensively matching up with some people. That wouldn't be a normal lineup, definitely not."

On Thursday's exhibition with Lee University
"Marty Rowe at Lee does a great job. Right now they are still NAIA and every year they go to the National Tournament. They win a lot of games. Coaches, peers of mine in the Division I realm, say I'm crazy to play them and I understand. It's dangerous every time we get on the court with them. They are capable of knocking you off. It's a great opportunity to play somebody who is going to make adjustments and do things to you to prepare you for the season. With them being 30 minutes away it's great for the fans as well. Marty and I are good friends so it will be a good exhibition game for the fans and a good challenge for us as well."

On winning being a priority in the exhibition
"I think you want to win. I feel very comfortable going deep on our bench so this will be good to get people out there, have officials and a crowd and that sort of thing and break the ice and get rid of some of the jitters especially for the freshmen."
