UTC Ends up Ninth at Central District Invite

PARRISH, Fla. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team moved up one spot Tuesday finishing ninth at the Central District Invitational. UTC passed Minnesota over the final 18 holes and got within one stroke of Augusta State ending up with a 54-hole total of 917.

The Mocs' 298 is the third-best total of 2012-13. It is second-lowest final round tally behind the 294 (+6) that captured the Lady Paladin Invitational ending the fall slate.

Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) led the team tying for 20th with a season-low 227 (+10) after her 76 today. Marion Duvernay (Publier, France) bounced back from a tough first day with a 71 (-1) to card 229 for her 54 holes tying for 27th.

UTC top four finishers ended up within four strokes of each other. Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia) was next at 230, tying for 31st, while Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) wound up tied for 36th at 231. Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) rounded out the team scoring with a 242.

SMU stormed back from a seven-shot deficit to win the event. The Mustangs' 293 gave it an 888 total, two shots better than No. 13 Vanderbilt (890) and seven clear of No. 17 Michigan State. The duo of Caroline Powers (Michigan State) and Natalie Wille (Augusta State) shared medalist honors at one-under par 215.

Isabella Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) and Agathe Sauzon (Valence, France) played as individuals. Loza posted the top result by a Chattanooga student-athlete tying for 16th at 226. Sauzon made her debut for the Mocs as a January enrollee carding 235 for her first 54 collegiate holes.

UTC is off until March 8-10 and its annual visit to the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational at Eagle Landing Golf Club in Orange Park, Fla. The Mocs have won the three-day, 54-hole event twice (2009, 2011).
