MOCS WOMEN’S GOLF NOTEBOOK
Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship | Round 1 | Sept. 20, 2013
Chattanooga shot its best 18 in the young season with an eight-over par 292. That total is its best since the final round of the 2013 SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational which was a 292 as well.
TURNAROUND AT THE TURN
UTC made the turn at 11 over before turning on the gas. Behind spectacular efforts from Emily McLennan and Agathe Sauzon, the squad shot minus three on their back nine for the eight-over total. McLennan (-3) and Sauzon (-2) combined to fire five-under par on the back side.
MCLENNAN SHOOTS CAREER BEST
McLennan shot a career-best 70 to open the event. It topped the one-under par 71 she shot in the 2012 Lady Paladin Invitational. She carded three birdies and 13 pars offsetting two bogeys.
GREAT COMEBACK FROM SAUZON
Sauzon walked off the seventh green at plus five and not in the best frame of mind after a double bogey. She flew the green on eight and left a tough par putt after leaving her chip a little short on the green. A good putt for par set the stage for a nice run. She birdied three of the next four hole en route to a plus-two finish.
UTC’s turnaround on the back nine is already noted, but there is a stark contrast looking at the numbers. After one birdie in the first nine holes, the team tallied eight on the counting cards.
The Mocs played with Ole Miss and Michigan. They topped the Rebels by two and the Wolverines by four.
