Alex Wharton was added to the Chattanooga Mocs basketball staff in May 2014 as video coordinator. He was elevated to the director of basketball operations in September 2014. In this role, Wharton oversees scheduling, camps, travel and all administrative aspects of the program.

“Alex is a great fit,” Wade continued. “He came in one role, but proved to be very well-equipped for the new one he transitioned to rather quickly. Alex is very diligent, organized and takes great care in putting our players first. Those are tremendous assets for the operations position.”

Despite his relatively young age, Alex has already accumulated five years of coaching experience. He most recently worked in internal operations at Houston for the 2013-14 season. Prior to his season with the Cougars, Wharton was a graduate assistant at Angelo State for the 2012 and 2013 campaigns.

Wharton played two seasons at Grayson College, a Texas junior college. He then went to Houston to complete his bachelor’s degree, but he did not play for the Cougars. Instead, he started his coaching career assisting at Lone Star Community College in Houston.

Alex got his bachelor’s in sports administration in 2011 from Houston. His master’s was attained in 2013, also in sports administration. He is a native of Houston, Texas.
