The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics Department celebrated the degree confirmations for 16 student-athletes at the 230th Commencement Program in McKenzie Arena today. Six Mocs graduated with distinction based on their academic performance for their entire careers.
Former men’s golfer Eric Forsman was elected to the Alpha Society as one of the top Economics graduates in the class of 2009. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.
Joining Forsman at today’s ceremonies were Jamie Dinkins and Sabrina Lefort, (Track & Field), Pavel Vostrikov and Badr Bouabdellah (men’s tennis), Tara Tembey (softball), Raeshon Ball (football), Sara Bass and Jamie Engel (volleyball), Nicchaeus Doaks and Zach Ferrell (men’s basketball), Joshua Edmundson, T.J. Hannah and Kyle McKee (wrestling), Beata Knizat (women’s tennis) and Erin Ogan (women’s basketball).
Dinkins was a University Honors Scholar and earned the Highest Honors in Biology award for her project: A Morphological Analysis of a “Confounding” Population of Castanea in Northwest Georgia. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology.
Ferrell and Knizat were both Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business Administration. Bouadbellah and Ogan also earned B.S. degrees in Business Administration. Doaks was awarded his B.S. degree in Psychology while Edmundson earned a B.S. in Sociology and Anthropology.
Lefort led a group of six Mocs with B.S. degrees in Health and Human Performance. She was Cum Laude and joined by Ball, Engel, McKee, Hannah and Tembey. Bass finished with a B.S. in Exercise Science, Health and Leisure Studies and Vostrikov was Cum Laude with a degree in Economics.
The Mocs held a reception for the graduates in the Hall of Fame Room prior to the commencement today. Degrees were confirmed by Provost Dr. Phil Oldham. The commencement address was given by UTC football benefactor Rene Haugerud, the Managing Principal and Chief Investment Officer of Galtere, Ltd.
