CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In recognition of her performance on and off the court, Chattanooga volleyball player Courtney Barnes was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team on Thursday.

Barnes is in the midst of her sophomore season and has developed into the Lady Mocs’ key offensive contributor.

This season the Franklin, Tenn. native is currently averaging 2.52 kills per set and has a hitting percentage of .292, both of which lead the team. Academically, Barnes boasts a 4.0 GPA as a Movement Science major at UTC.

She is also the team’s leader in blocks (67) and blocks per set (0.82).

Barnes’s impact has really been felt since the beginning of conference play, as she has helped lead the team to second-place in the SoCon’s North Division with a 10-4 mark.

During the 14-game conference stretch, she has led the team in kills (153), kills per set (3.00), hitting percentage (.289), blocks (57), and blocks per set (1.12).

Her 3.00 kills per set during conference play is good for ninth place in the Southern Conference, while her 1.12 blocks per set puts her at fourth place on the SoCon’s list.

Barnes and the Lady Mocs return to action on Saturday as Chattanooga takes on Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
