CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head coach John Shulman announced the addition of guard/forward Omar Wattad and forward Sam Watson on Monday.  Wattad is a junior transferring from Georgetown, while Watson is a walk-on out of Knoxville Farragut High School.

"We are excited to have these young men join our program," said Shulman.  "Omar is a high-major guy out of Science Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.).  We really wanted him in the 2007 class and just missed out to Georgetown...I wasn't going to miss on him again.

"Sam is a big kid out Farragut," added Shulman.  "He will give us good depth inside and has a lot of potential down the road."

Wattad is a 6'5" guard/forward who played two seasons, mostly as a reserve, with the Hoyas.  He averaged 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds last season.  He has to sit out 2009-10 due to NCAA transfer rules.  Watson is a 6'7", 240-lb., post player who enters UTC after a strong career at Farragut.

Mocs Lose Director of Basketball Operations to IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind.---University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball Director of Basketball Operations Azeez Ali is moving to IPFW (Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne) as a full-time assistant coach to Dane Fife who is entering his fifth season at the Summit League school.  It is a bittersweet moment for Chattanooga head coach John Shulman.

"I am crushed to tell you the truth," said Shulman.  "Z has played an integral in our success the last two years and he will be missed.  I couldn't be happier for him.  This is a well-earned opportunity and we wish him the best."

Ali spent two seasons with the Mocs from 2007-09.  In his two years, Chattanooga won two Southern Conference North Division titles along with one SoCon Tournament crown and trip to the NCAA West Regional in 2009.

"I'm excited to be here, excited to work with Coach Fife and his staff, and am very thankful for the opportunity," Ali said.  "Hopefully I can contribute and be part of Coach Fife's vision for winning the Summit League.  I'd also like to thank Coach Shulman for the opportunity he provided me at UTC."

Prior to his time at Chattanooga, Ali was an assistant coach at Cecil Community College in North East, Md.  CCC went 66-5 during his tenure winning the 2006 NJCAA Division II Championship.  The Wilmington, Del., native is a 2004 graduate (Business Administration) of Maryland-Eastern Shore.

The Mocs open practice later this month in preparation for a tour of Toronto, Canada over Labor Day Weekend

Mocs Host Sixth Annual Golf Tournament

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---John Shulman, his staff and student-athletes hosted its sixth annual golf tournament.  This year's event was played at Black Creek Club.

Play began a little after at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 17 following a phenomenal lunch spread from River Street Deli.  Thirty four-person teams took on the challenging site of the Nationwide Tour's Chattanooga Classic.

Contestants also got the opportunity to meet and greet the 2009-10 Chattanooga Mocs squad as student-athletes were stationed on various holes throughout the course following their classes for the day.

"It's always a great day for our team," said Shulman, who is entering his sixth year at the helm of the tradition-rich program.  "It a chance for our players and coaches to say thank you to our many supporters in a very personal way."

The Broad Street Grille and The Chattanoogan provided dinner following play at the course.  Complimentary snack and beverages, complimentary range balls and prizes for holes in one, long drive and closest to the pin were available as well as a silent auction and awards ceremony with dinner.
