Sophomore Emily Hangstefer is now 6-0 on the year after winning the Mocs Flight today.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team capped off an impressive weekend at the UTC Steve Baras Memorial Tournament today.  The Lady Mocs captured four of the seven singles flights and one doubles bracket in the final rounds at the Champions Club.

UTC was playing for seven of the 11 titles up for grabs today, coming away with the hardware in five of those matches.  "It was an outstanding team effort from top to bottom," stated UTC women's tennis head coach Jeff Clark.  "Anytime you have eight people playing on the third day of a tournament, that's a very good achievement."

Sophomore Emily Hangstefer continued her fast start to the 2009-10 season with her second flight win in as many tournaments.  She defeated Tennessee-Martin's Anna Winkleman (6-3, 6-4) to take the Mocs Flight.  Hangstefer is now 6-0 in singles matches on the year.

Hangstefer, a native of Signal Mountain, Tenn., started the day teaming with freshman Jenna Nurik to win the Chattanooga Doubles Flight.  They defeated Eastern Kentucky's Anouk Faure and Myriem Mhirit (8-4) while improving to 5-1 as a pair on the year.

Sophomore Shaina Singh won the Blue draw with a two-set win over Kennesaw State's Ayano Tanaka (6-3, 6-3).  Junior Annie Green won the North Shore Flight with her win over UT-Martin's Alice Laing (6-2, 6-3).

Freshman Jennifer Taylor rounded out the singles wins for UTC in the Rivermont draw.  Taylor, also a Signal Mountain, Tenn., native, score a two-set win over Kennesaw's MacKenzie Swindall (6-2, 6-2).

The only matches the Lady Mocs dropped today were in doubles play.  Green and sophomore Briana Wishing fell to KSU's Morgan Carney and Tess Lagerkvist (8-4) in the Gold Flight.  Sophomores Charlotte Bossy and Jennemieke van der Veek dropped their match to Mercer's Morgan Carney and Tess Lagerkvist (8-4) in the Mocs Flight.

"We performed well in both singles and doubles," continued Clark.  "I felt like we built on our good play from the opening weekend and we played even better on our home court."

The Lady Mocs will wrap up fall action at the Belmont Quad Tournament in Nashville, Tenn., on Oct. 23-24.
