CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Spectators at the softball Blue-Gold Game on Oct. 17 saw the hard work of the crews from AstroTurf and city of Chattanooga that dodged the rain all week to have the field ready for play. After a couple of weeks allowing the field to dry, AstroTurf was back out to put the finishing touches on Tuesday. The crew cutout the original turf and placed two Chattanooga Power-"C" logos down each baseline in front of the bags. Behind home plate, a Frost Stadium logo is on the apron in white with a blue trim. A photo gallery can be accessed by clicking the link above showing the completed work. President of AstroTurf, Bryan Peeples and his family made the donation of their GameDay Grass 3D that stretches first to third around the dirt in foul territory. The installation took longer than expected because rain delayed the crews from starting in early October, but they were able to get the turf down before the Lady Mocs played their annual intrasquad scrimmage. After the day's practice, the coaches and players stopped by the Frost Stadium to see the finishing touches. Everyone was impressed by the new-look field that proves to be one of the top in the nation. Having to deal with a rainy fall camp that forced most practices indoors, the squad appreciated the time that they got outdoors today. The practice is the only one for the week as the team looks to maintain top form over the fall and they will pick back up again with daily practices starting in January. The Lady Mocs open the regular season in Clermont, Fla. at the National Training Center Invitational against Florida Atlantic on Feb. 12 at noon. Chattanooga begins its home slate on Feb. 26 with the annual Frost Classic, a 16-team tournament, against Rutgers at 3 p.m. |
