Ridge McKeither recorded his first double-double for the Mocs.

RICHMOND, Va. - A slow start doomed the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball team as Richmond (3-1) claimed a 75-49 victory in the Robins Center Sunday evening.  A five-and-a-half minute scoring drought to start the game put Chattanooga (2-1) in a hole from which it could not recover.

Richmond opened the contest with a 14-0 run as the Mocs did not score their first basket until the 14:30 mark, a layup by DeAntre Jefferson.  The Mocs closed to 21-10 on a Jasper Williams three-pointer at 10:18, but that's as close as the Mocs would get as the Spiders took a 40-24 lead into the break.

The Spiders opened the second half with a 9-2 run to extend their lead to 23 points, 49-26 on a David Gonzalvez slam dunk at 17:24.  The Mocs scored the next five points on baskets by Ridge McKeither and William's second three-pointer, but they could sustain a consistent run to get back in the game.

McKeither led the Mocs with 17 points and 10 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season.  Jefferson added 10 points, six rebounds and four blocks off the bench as the Mocs recorded eight blocks in all on the evening.

It was Kevin Anderson's night for the Spiders as the junior guard passed the 1,000-point mark for his career while scoring 23 points and grabbing seven rebounds on the night.  Francis-Cedric Martel chipped in 10 points.  Dan Geriot only scored two points, but he led the Spiders with 10 boards.

Richmond out-rebounded the Mocs 44-33 on the night with 19 coming on the offensive end resulting in 20 second-chance points to just six for UTC on six offensive boards.  The Spiders committed just 10 turnovers compared to 23 for the Mocs scoring 26 points on the Mocs miscues.

Chattanooga stays on the road traveling on to Columbia, Mo., for a Tuesday night matchup with the Missouri Tigers.  Game time scheduled for 8 p.m. (EST) and the game will be broadcast on FSN Midwest.
