After Davidson's Steve Rossiter scored the first two points of the game, Patterson and Taylor each hit a three to spark a 19-4 run to put the Mocs up early. UTC started the game 6-7 from the field with a combination of strong drives and hot shooting from behind the arc.
Ridge McKeither's dunk capped the run at the 13:52 mark, giving the Mocs a 19-6 lead at that point. For the next 4:30, however, Chattanooga scored only two points as Davidson chipped away.
Five straight threes over a four-minute stretch gave the Wildcats a 15-2 run and their first lead since the 18:20 mark. McKillop hit three from deep during that stretch for all nine of his first half points. The run made it a 28-23 advantage for the Wildcats, and they took a 35-32 lead into the break. Just like the first half, the Mocs started the second 2-2 from long range and grabbed the lead, 40-38. The teams traded baskets over the next seven minutes, while neither team led by more than two.
An offensive rebound and put-back from Jake Cohen gave Davidson a four-point advantage, 49-45, with 10:46 to play, but that only spurred a Chattanooga run.
The Mocs went 3-4 from the field and 6-6 from the free-throw line during a 16-3 run that put them ahead 61-52 with just under 6:30 to play. Taylor and Patterson scored six apiece during the run as two Taylor free tosses gave the Mocs the lead for good, 54-52, with 7:56 left.

Two late threes from Davidson made the score close, but the Wildcats did not have enough firepower in the second half. Patterson was pulled from the game with 11 seconds remaining and received his final standing ovation from the crowd at McKenzie Arena.
Chattanooga out-rebounded Davidson, who ranks second in the league in rebounding margin, 41-38 on the night. The Mocs' wings were pivotal with 22 of the 41 boards led by Patterson's eight and Bell's five.
