Two University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestlers had solid showings at the 2010 University Nationals in Akron, Ohio, last weekend. Freshman Dean Pavlou finished fifth in the event while sophomore Robert Prigmore placed third.
Pavlou, the 2010 Southern Conference 149-pound champion and NCAA qualifier, competed in the 70 KG freestyle on Sunday, April 11. He won his first four matches to advance to the quarterfinals. He finished the day 5-1 for his fifth place showing. A complete bracket of Pavlou's day is available here.
Prigmore, a transfer from Lehigh University who joined the Mocs in January, competed in the 96 KG bracket of the Greco competition. He went 1-1 in his first two matches on Saturday, falling to eventual winner Charles Fish (USMC) in the second round. He went on to grab four straight wins in the wrestleback to place third in the event. A complete bracket for Prigmore's competition is available here.
The University National Championships include over 1,200 athletes from across the nation. ASICS University athletes are 18 to 24 years of age and feature some of the nation's top wrestlers from college wrestling programs and the U.S. Military team. The top seven placewinners in the University Nationals in both men's styles in the seven Olympic weight classes qualify to participate in the University World Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 28-29.
