NORMAN, Okla. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golfer Derek Rende was named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team announced Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.  He is one of 119 NCAA Division I student-athletes to earn the honor.

"Derek is a perfect example of the term student-athlete," said head coach Mark Guhne.  "He excelled on the course and in the classroom for four years.  I couldn't be prouder."

Rende completed his eligibility in May at the NCAA Southwest Regional.  In his four years, the Mocs won three Southern Conference titles and competed in four NCAA Regionals advancing to the NCAA Finals in 2009.  He is a four-time All-SoCon selection and three-time PING All-Region performer.

This is his second All-America Scholar award.  Earlier this week, he was named to the SoCon All-Academic team for the spring sports.

Rende is playing professionally this summer on the eGolf Professional Tour in North Carolina.  He plans to return to Chattanooga in the fall to complete his degree in Criminal Justice.
