UTC is off to a strong start with a 2-2 overall record. The Mocs have wins over Tennessee Tech (6-1) and Murray State (7-0) and losses to No. 71 Radford (0-7) and Middle Tennessee (1-6).
Juniors Roberto Vieira (Bedfordview, South Africa) and Jackson Tresnan (Apopka, Fla.) lead the team with 3-1 singles marks in spring play. Vieira is 7-5 overall and holds down the No. 1 slot.
Junior Chris Smith (Johnson City, Tenn.) has moved up to No. 2 in the lineup where he is 2-1 this spring. Junior Ankit Chopra (Chandigrah, India) is also 2-1 at No. 3 while fellow junior Manuel Barroetavena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) went 1-1 at No. 4 last weekend. Pencil Tresnan in at the fifth spot with freshman Pavels Grigorjevs (Riga, Latvia) playing No. 6.
Smith and Vieira are 2-2 as the No. 1 doubles team while Chopra and junior Stephen Crofford are also 2-2 at No. 2. The No. 3 squad could include any combination of Grigorjevs, Tresnan and sophomore Orlando Lourenco (Hixson, Tenn.).
Lipscomb is 1-2 on the year, including a 6-1 win over Western Kentucky. They also have a 6-1 loss at Georgia State and a 4-3 defeat at Samford.
The Mocs are looking to avenge last year's 4-3 season-opening loss to the Bison in Nashville, Tenn. Vieira, Smith and junior William Disterdick (Hixson, Tenn.) posted wins in that match, but Lipscomb took the all-important doubles point to grab the win.
